Psychiatric Treatment

Prospective Patient Intro Call (15 minutes)
FREE

Investing in your mental health is a big, important decision that carries emotional weight. We want to support you in making the best choice for you. Please schedule a call to learn more about our practice. In our free 15-minute consultation call, we can understand your goals for treatment, you can ask us questions about our practice philosophy and structure, and we can decide together whether to proceed with an initial evaluation.

If you are in crisis, feeling suicidal, or experiencing a psychiatric emergency, please call 911 immediately or go to your nearest emergency room.

Initial Consultation and Evaluation (75 minutes)
$600

The initial appointment is a consultation during which we will discuss your current concerns, your life story, your intake questionnaire, your past psychiatric history, and your past medical history. We will spend the time trying to better understand your experiences. At the end of the appointment, we will discuss our clinical impressions and treatment recommendations with you, and decide whether we will continue working together. If we move forward with treatment, we will collaborate on next steps for your care, including psychotherapy, medications, lifestyle modifications, etc.

Individual Therapy +/- Medication Management Follow-up (50 minutes)
$425

Psychotherapy, or “talk therapy,” offers a space for self-reflection, vulnerability, and building insight. We provide a warm, supportive, nonjudgmental space for you to share your story, and for us to work together toward your goals.

Typically, therapy appointments, and combined therapy/medication appointments, occur at a weekly frequency, though we can consider biweekly appointments (twice weekly, or every other week) on a case-by-case basis.

Individual Medication Management Only Follow-up (25 minutes)
$300

We also provide psychopharmacology, or medication management, for any symptoms that are adversely impacting you. We can provide medications in addition to psychotherapy (see above), or as a stand-alone treatment option if you are not interested in therapy or already have a therapist.

We will discuss any medication options in detail, including benefits, potential side effects, how to take them, and any questions or concerns you might have along the way, to allow you to make an informed decision. We will monitor your reactions to the medications, and adjust the dosing and type of medication as needed. We believe that “less is more,” striving for the fewest number of medications, at the lowest possible doses, that address your symptoms. And if you aren’t interested in medications, that’s okay, too!

Typically, medication management-only appointments occur more frequently when starting/changing medications (ex: every 2-4 weeks), and more spaced out when you are at a more steady state (ex: every 1-2 months).

Clinical Consultation Services

One-Time or Second Opinion Consultation

We offer second-opinion consultations to patients who are currently in treatment with another provider, and/or who would like a one-time consultation before having another provider (ex: a primary care physician) take over their care. A second-opinion consultation typically takes between 1 to 4 visits, depending on a person’s unique experiences and history. The process includes a review of your intake questionnaire, your current concerns, your past psychiatric history, and your past medical history, as well as a review of any relevant medical records from your existing provider. We will discuss our clinical impressions and treatment recommendations with you, and send a written report to your current provider. To request this service, please schedule a call.

This is not for the purpose of establishing a doctor-patient relationship or pursuing ongoing care with us.

Lectures / Workshops

Dr. Taneja has extensive experience in leading lectures and workshops on a variety of topics, including race and ethnicity in clinical care and supervision; treatment of various psychiatric disorders; and providing support and psychoeducation after traumatic experiences. Please see the About page for more details. Please reach out through the Contact page to discuss potential projects and quotes.

Insurance

Out of Network

To provide more personalized services, Kahani Psychiatry is out of network for all insurances, as insurance companies often dictate the type and frequency of treatment. Read here about the benefits of pursuing out-of-network care.

We will provide you with an itemized receipt (”superbill”) for the services provided, which you can submit to your insurance company.

Insurance companies that include out-of-network benefits often reimburse 20-80% of fees. If you plan to utilize your out-of-network insurance benefits, please confirm your out-of-network benefits directly with your insurance company, and check whether your insurance plan covers telehealth appointments (delivered via a HIPAA-compliant video conferencing software). Read here for tips on accessing your out-of-network benefits.

If you pursue care with Kahani Psychiatry, and wish to take advantage of your out-of-network insurance benefits, you will be able to submit your superbills directly through our patient portal, at no cost to you.

Reimbursements

When checking on your reimbursements with your insurance company, it may help to provide potential billing codes that may be utilized. You will need to ask about out-of-network benefits, any deductible you may need to meet for these benefits, and reimbursements for the following codes:

  • Initial evaluation: 99205 +/- 99417 +/- 96127

  • Medication management only: 99213, 99214, or 99215, depending on complexity

  • Psychotherapy +/- medication management: 99212 / 99213 / 99214 / 99215 (depending on complexity) and 90836 / 90838

Medicare and MassHealth patients

Kahani Psychiatry does not bill to, or accept payments from, Medicare (primary or secondary) or Medicaid/MassHealth. Because of this, we are prohibited by law from accepting patients who have these insurances, even if you are able to self-pay.
